Broken images-Failed Troubleshooting

Hi. My page has started showing broken images AND some of my images have disappeared from the media library. Now I cannot even upload new images on my library as they show up blank. I have tried deactivating plugins, changing file permissions, talked to my host (HostGator) who said nothing is wrong at their end. None of usual troubleshooting worked. Even though I cannot be sure, I think the problem started when I deactivated autoptmize and used Hummingbird plugin because my site was running very slow. It made the site even slower so I had to deactivate it and activate Autoptimize again.Can anyone suggest other measures because I am at a complete loss.
I use Ocean WP theme and Elementor.
