Hi, sometime since the new year one of the updates has broken my backups .. my 7 backups were far too small and random sizes, if I try to do a backup manually it never completes, or it comes up with this error:

PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

I’ve just deleted all backups via FTP and tried again, and I got that message above. I just tested the latest version of the plugin on a smaller site and its worked fine, so this may well be to do with larger backups? I’m trying to backup 551Mb <<< Any ideas? TY

The latest attempt seams to have got 100Mb into it and then failed ..
It’s possible this problem started when the file size went over 500Mb? The webspace taken up by the website did go up in an un-natural way over the last couple of weeks and I can’t explain that.

Could you check that you have sufficient available space on your hosting server?

Hmm sorry that indeed was the problem today – however the web hosting was set to unlimited previously and it stored 7 x 500Mb backups without any problem; that broke down over a week ago which led me to play with hosting settings; today’s problem was caused myself by re-setting the webspace to ‘unlimited’ but the server actually capped it at 1gb (Legacy of accounts created in an old version of WHM).
Dunno, will keep an eye on it .. thanks Paul.

    Nope definitely something wrong ..
I’m getting more backups that I asked for, one is labelled ‘default’ and the other labelled ‘complete’ .. in the menu in wp-admin I’m getting two tabs for Complete Daily:

Complete Daily (5) Complete Daily (2) Complete Weekly (0) + add schedule

I’m spotting the problem because of too much disk space being used. I’m also getting the “PHP Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons” warning which I’ve seen in another thread.

I’m running WordPress 3.7.1 but will try updating on my test site.

So right now I’m going to delete the unwanted backups via FTP to get disk space back. Any ideas?

Ok I’ve worked it out, I didn’t realise you could have different schedules, and I’d never hit the “+ add schedule” button myself, so my guess is that the update added one or more schedules, I certainly ended up with two daily schedules, one of my other sites had three.
I’ll keep on eye on it, cheers ..

Thanks, I had the same error alert, turned out to be a lack of space indeed. Is it an idea / possible to make it a more clear error text?

We’re working on a feature that will provide more helpful error messages for these types of errors.

I don’t think the update would actually add a duplicate schedule. But if I get more reports of this, I’ll look into it

I too have started getting this error.

My web-hosting package has 1GB storage.
    My contents = 300MB
The last backup that ran successfully was a .zip of 205MB.

Now, since the error started, the backup if scheduled or manual, gives this error & the zip file size created is only approximately 154MB. Also if i download the .zip file I cannot extract as it is corrupted.

I store only one copy of Backup into the web host. So there is still plenty of space remaining & its show in the Cpanel.

Hi vickyt, in case your situation is like mine… you might have two backup folders in your hosting account.

You could check using an FTP client or a file manager in your web hosting control panel to view the contents of the /wp-content folder.

If you have more than one which starts with backupwordpress- you may need to either (1) delete the older folder or (2) exclude it from the list of backed up files. Where you view your backups, you can find an “Excludes” link and check there.
