Broken Site after upgrading from version 3.1.6

    Hi together,

    after upgrading the neve theme to a version higher than 3.1.6 my website is completely broken and the error message “There was a critical error on this website” is shown.

    I′m using the Elementor Plugin and PHP version 8.0 on my server.

    Also this message is shown:

    Thank you for using Neve and for reaching out!

    It seems like the error is related to the menu-icon component but I cannot say for sure why that might be.

    What I would advise is to backup your website first, then disable all plugins and see if you can update the theme without breaking the website (getting this error).

    If that worked, then start enabling back plugins one by one and see at which point the website breaks. Once you identified the plugin that breaks the website you can replace it with another one or remove it if you don’t need those features.

    If this didn’t work either, then can you please share the website URL with us so we can have a further look and see if we can identify the root cause?

    Hi Mat,

    I′ve tried to deactivate all the plugins.
    After deactivating “Real Cookie Banner (Free)” the error was gone but only a white site is shown. So The website did not work even without this plugin.

    Maybe you can have a deeper look?

    yes a rollback to version 3.1.6 always help.
    All other following versions did not work.

    We have issued a new version of the theme. Would you please update the theme to the latest version and see if that fixes the issue?

    Hi Mat,

    unfortunatelly the issue is also existing with the newest theme version.

    Is there anything else I can try?

    Thank you for your reply and apologies for our delayed one!

    We have had some issues with our system and the replies were not coming in.

    Now coming back to the issue at hand, are you still experiencing this issue? I see that you are still using the 3.1.6 version of the theme.

    I see that after disabling the cookies plugin you were met with the “white screen of death” which can have multiple causes. Can you please try to remove that plugin again and then try the steps mentioned in this documentation?

    Also, you could try to re-create the menu entirely and see if that works as the initial error was related to the menu component.

    thanks for your replay and sorry for my late answer.

    I tried following steps now:
    – deactivate cookie plugin
    – update neve to newest version
    –> only the header and the “white screen of death” is shown
    –> After disabling the header plugin only a white screen is shown.

    After rollback to 3.1.6 everything works again.

    I will try the steps in the documentation and will reach back to you!

    I see you didn’t follow up on the topic, so wanted to see if the issue is solved now with the latest version of the theme.
