• Hi, I helped out a friend who was getting very overcharged for having a WordPress website with a company. I imported her website in to my server CP panel and have been looking after it for her. I warned her I knew very little about WordPress and would give it a go, I managed to get it over and managed to work with it a few times. Recently she sold her business and asked me to take out her mobile number, which I did but while I was in there it wanted me to upgrade some out of date items so I set them on auto and got out of the WordPress Dashboard. The next morning the website was completely down and she received this email:

    G'day!

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Sitemap by BestWebSoft.

First, visit your website (https://www.pelicansnestkalbarri.com.au/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://www.pelicansnestkalbarri.com.au/wp-admin/) and check for any visible issues.

Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

If your site appears broken and you can't access your dashboard normally, WordPress now has a special "recovery mode". This lets you safely login to your dashboard and investigate further.

    https://www.pelicansnestkalbarri.com.au/wp-login.php?action=enter_recovery_mode&rm_token=zjqGmjYElrp0OPcJmZOHsY&rm_key=Lt8FNsIB0k8znTx793IvpI

To keep your site safe, this link will expire in 1 day. Don't worry about that, though: a new link will be emailed to you if the error occurs again after it expires.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.8.6
Current theme: Hotel-Melbourne (version 3.3) Current plugin: Sitemap by BestWebSoft (version 3.2.6) PHP version 5.6.40

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 531 of the file /home/landeau/pelicansnestkalbarri.com.au/wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-plugin/google-sitemap-plugin.php. Error message: Call to undefined function str_contains()

She sent the email to me but it did nothing except keep downloading php pages, I have never been able to login, when I click the login on the dashboard now it just downloads a PHP. I tried using the so-called recovery mode link and nothing, everything I have tried just downloads links. I got into the CPanel file that was on my server and found the line but I know absolutly nothing about php, I tried deleting the whole section where the error was located but this has made no difference.

Yes I should have had a backup then but I didn’t, I wish I never allowed the upgrades as now her sale goes through tomorrow with a broken website!

I don’t know what to do, please please help me.

Hi, this error is caused by the plugin google sitemap, please deactivate it by renaming the plugins folder in /wp-conent/plugins/

I have already done this before, I have redone it and still, nothing, can’t login to the dashboard in Softaliscous and can’t see the webpage. I can’t see a debug file turning up in my files, does this take login to show or should I leave it for a while?

what did you rename the folder to?
The debug file only turns up if wordpress logs any error, sometimes you don’t get your error in the debug file

    plugins-old

Hi, can you only rename the /wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-plugin/ folder
    and rename it to temp_google-sitemap-plugin

    (@raelenel)

Ok I did but still all just the same, still just downloading files

backup your complete site and try to start a new wordpress site, if the new wordpress site works we know its an issue from the website, if it doesn’t we know it’s an issue from your webserver, do you manage your webserver for yourself?

Yes I have my own server but unfortunately it’s with Little Orange and they are never helpful and I am used to html not WordPress so I am a bit out of my depth. I fluked getting it exported doing a duplicate and bringing it over to my server space was not sure I would ever have it working but then it did until these updates went through. It’s late and I am feeling sick from tired so will try again in the morning here. Thanks

I put took down the WordPress site and put up a new single-page html site and it still doesn’t work so still waiting hours later for a response to my support ticket, it’s just a waiting game from here! Thanks for your help I may or may not put the WordPress version back up if we can sort it out.
