    Hi

I have done much much research to find a solution to this issue and have tried numerous alternatives, but haven’t been able to resolve the issue.

After configuring w3tc as best I can, website speed did improve, but when testing the site on services such as PageSpeed Insights or Webpagetest.org , there are many issues that are highlighted.

The main one states that Browser Caching is not being utilised, despite having configured it in w3tc. webpagetest.org states:
    FAILED – (No max-age or expires) – https://s ….

    …and Google pagespeed…
    _icn.png (expiration not specified)

Nothing I do to change these settings makes any difference (and these tests are not carried out while being logged in to the site).

Pagespeed doesn’t recognise gzip, although webpagetest does.

I am at a loss and I’m hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on this issue? The website is: https://www.theelephantcrossinghotel.com

    Thank you in advance.

  • You do not appear to have mod_expires or gzip installed on the server contact your host and it should work.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure how exactly how to check this?

I ran a phpinfo() test and on there it states that gzip is enabled, but I could find no mention of mod_expires.

I’ll do some more research and contact the hosting company as well. Thanks.

    @destac

Is there any chance you could share with me how I check if these things are enabled on my hosting please? …I’ve been trying but I find what I’m looking for.

I have looked on [the clients] hosting and have found a page of php settings and modules and gzip and mod_expire does not show up. However, like I mentioned in my previous message, phpinfo() shows that gzip is enabled.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on their hosting environment if it has a Cpanel you can enable it in Cpanel and only to compress text content. Sometimes W3TC might not be able to access it.

    Right. Thank you.

I did submit a ticket to the hosting provider and they said that neither of those modules are compatible with their particular shared hosting. :/

    Thanks for your help.
