Brute Force attack

  • I’m curious: Is anyone else experience a major brute force attack coming from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. currently? I have two sites that are experiencing over 300 attempted logins in the past 12 – 15 hours. Thankfully all have been blocked but the resource usage on these is climbing through the roof.

  • Yes, I believe I am experiencing the same attack. I am upgrading to a full site license for this very reason – so I can block by country.

    nessarox1403: I tried the free IQcountry block plugin with only limited results; it did cut the attacks some from my logs but it also slowed a couple of sites down massively. But enabling the part of Jetpack that used to be Bruteforce protect (the jetpack “protection” tab)made a huge difference. Since doing that along with the other plugin my notices have dropped off to at most about 2 – 3 per day per site. I still may go to the premium version, it’s just big bucks when I add the licenses up for all my sites. Good luck with it…
