• Hi.. I’m having a problem with the default buddypress working on all my blogs. The main site displays the theme perfectly as it does on 2 other sites I installed it on. The problem I am having is on a multi-site install. The front page or main page of my site is what I want the subdomains to look like (default buddypress theme) what the subdomain blogs are showing is the Twenty Eleven theme. I have no idea what went wrong or how to fix this.

I’m very close to getting this to work and it’s really important to me that I get it figured out. I’ve just discovered your software 2 days ago and I’ve been enjoying learning how to use it, but I’ve hit a brick wall.

any help will be appreciated.. just please keep it simple for me, step by step please.. ??

thank you very much in advance.. ??

That’s what it does by default – new blogs get the default theme, which is twenty eleven.

use this plugin to set your theme to something else:
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/

this will not go back and change the theme on the blogs you already created.

And normally, you do not run a buddypress theme on the subsites, as only the main site uses the bp functions.

Hi Andrea… thank you for your reply. I will give that a try. If it works should I delete the subdomains and then recreate them so they all have the buddypress default theme like the main page?

I installed and activated the plugin you mentioned, but I dont see where to use it. I checked in both admin panels

okay.. I found the link to set up your own default blog and set it for the buddypress default.

now the links at the top where it says, members – groups and most important blogs are not working so how do I fix that?

just go to those sites and change the theme in the appearance menus.

ask in the buddypress forums please. the theme wasn’t designed to be used on sub stes for that reason. More info is over there.

oh.. okay, thank you very much!! I will do that. I’m sure you saved me a lot of time, I really appreciate it.

one more little thing, how can I set it up so users can have their html show up like bold, links and so on in their posts?

    thanks again!!

how can I set it up so users can have their html show up like bold, links and so on in their posts?

if they are writing a post in the admin area… there are little buttons to click.

If you mean in the BP activity stream – ask in the bp forums.

You can use HTML in the BP activity stream. Same as comments. There are quicktags plugins you can use that work on BP too.

    Hi Ipstenu.. ??
thank you for your reply… that sounds really cool, but I’ve only known about this since 3 days ago and I need you to hold my hand and walk me through if you would please.. ??

    Thank you for understanding.. ??

and I get where your from.. I’ve helped many others with computer problems for over 10 years… total newbies that had no idea how to fix their computers after viruses and computer crashes, so I totally appreciate your helping me out.. ??

I’m just green with this and really want it to work.
    Thanks!!

Andrea.. thank you very much for the help you gave me today.. I’m so close to getting my site the way I want it to work. Once it’s working, I’ll post again, I would love for you to chat with me there.. ??

I’d really like to post on the buddypress board.. but I’m not finding any links to click on to start a request for help there.. ??

I posted there… I have no idea if I posted in the correct place or not.

    https://buddypress.org/support/topics/

Scroll down past the ‘recent topics’ and on the right of the Forums Lists, you’ll see ‘Post new topic’

    I would do it under How-to ??

    (@sunshine111)

thank you Ipstenu.. their support area is a total mess.. it might take days till anyone finds my post.. ??

at least you guys post back.

I just want all my links at the top of the pages to work.

    Thread Starter sunshine111

    (@sunshine111)

I should say.. the tabs that show at the top of the page that are links or should be to the other blogs.

this is killing me, I’m so close to getting my site to working the way I want it to.

maybe it would be easier to take off the tabbed links and just add a drop down box in the header that would take the users from chat to chat board. I have around 32 chats/blogs in subdomains that I’d like for users to just log in once and go from chat to chat board.

please don’t ask me to go to the buddypress site for help… I can’t find my way around there.

Please don’t double (or triple) post if you can help it.

And the reason Andrea and I sent you to BP.org is cause that’s where their brains hang out. I have the same problem you do, navigating around it, and tend to just muddle through on my own or google specific issues.
