• I love WordPress and I just upgraded to the org site. I’m trying to find a great theme for my about to be published novel. I’d like to add photos, blogs from the characters, videos, merchandising options and social networking possibilities (forums, contests, etc.) Any ideas for themes that meet these qualifications? Thanks so much.

  • I would start with 2010 Weaver. It’s simple to use and has lots of customization.

The nice thing about WordPress is you can select a theme and play around with it and then install some other themes and preview them prior to activation to see what you like.

Really I think you’re asking us to guess your favorite color ??

I spent many hours looking at themes, picked the one I thought I liked best and then changed my mind anyway. Go to the themes page and start searching. Use the filter, you can pick by color, etc.

    Good Luck

    Thanks roostertail,
I have indeed been playing with themes. And I found that I really like backbybook. But the question is still about BuddyPress. Is there anything else out there that provides all the social networking options? If not, how do I apply buddypress to my theme?

Hi Anne, the best way would be to find a wordpress theme that is compatible to BuddyPress or if you have a little bit experience in coding you could make your WP theme compatible to BuddyPress:

Thanks Panther8 – it looks a bit daunting. I’ve just moved to the backmybook theme – which is not supposed to be Buddy Press friendly. BUT… if BuddyPress is a plugin that can be applied – then I’ll try it.

After you install and activate the BuddyPress plugin, you would need to install and activate the BP Template Pack plugin which will get the BuddyPress pages into your backmybook theme.

You should have some HTML/CSS knowledge to change the markups of the BuddyPress template files that get transferred to your backmybook theme folder. Here’s a walkthrough of BP Template Pack for reference https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/

Thanks Mercine. As I have NO HTML/CSS knowledge – I’m kind of terrified of messing around with it. I’ll go into what you sent and see if I can navigate through it.
