BuddyPress, translation, fa icons & child theme?

    Hi,
    I’ve been exploring your theme (installed the free version etc.) and I do have some questions at this point:

    1. it is declared as buddypress-compatible, however there is no bp-specific styles or similar to be found? Will BP really work seamlessly with GeneratePress theme?

    2. localisation, beside www.ads-software.com – there is no languages directory containing .pot, .po and .mo files … how can the local translation be done? Should one create the directory himself, download e.g. English files from www.ads-software.com and translate them with Poedit?

    3. is there an option to add just a few more hand-picked font-awesome icons, instead of loading them all?

    4. if using premium package, hooks in particular, would you still recommend using child theme or there is no need for it at all?

    Apologies for so many questions, but I already purchaser some fancy and quite expensive theme, which gave me nothing but disappointment…

    Hi there,

    1. Yes, it will work. However, there isn’t any specific styling or BP specific functionality. GP is a base theme, meaning we make sure the foundation works, but we don’t add a bunch of code that only a small percentage of people will use.

    2. All of our free theme translations are hosted here on www.ads-software.com. It’s the best way for people to collaborate on the translations.

    3. You would have to create your own font file. Check out the IcoMoon app if you haven’t already – it’s great for that.

    4. Totally depends on your usage. Child themes are necessary if you need to overwrite entire page templates for example.

    However, if you’re only adding some CSS and PHP snippets, they’re usually not necessary.

    I totally agree, “less is more” approach is better at the end … also, I will learn about IcoMoon app, it does seem great.

    This time you really helped me out to clear mi mind and decide what to do next. ??
