    Hi there,

I’ve recently came across to an issue I initially thought was a conflict between Elementor and an event plugin that I’m using.

After quite a thorough troubleshooting and activating/deactivating/eliminating plugins I ended up only with Elementor activated.

Issue: when the page URL slug is /events/ , I’m not able to edit the page with Elementor. Instead I get the “Preview could not be loaded” error.

If I change the slug to anything other than events, /my-events/ for example, I can again edit this page with Elementor.

Is there any chance this could be fixed please?

  • I believe that is a reserved slug and therefore cannot be used.

    Hey @cavalierlife ,

Are you just guessing or you know this?

I have been trying to troubleshoot the issue of why my /events/ page cannot be edited with Elementor. Firstly I thought that it is the events plugin that I’m using, but then I’ve searched and searched and came across to other threads with the exact same issue, but different events plugin.

So after testing only Elementor and /events/ slug, it brought me here, because the problem is not with the events plugin, it is Elementor.

I absolutely love Elementor, but this would be a bit silly, don’t you think?

It would basically mean that anyone using Elementor and having events on their website, cannot have URL /events/ for their Events page.

While this might not be an issue for some, kind of is for me, because I don’t really want to call my events page /my-events/ or /events-page/ or /events-directory/

I just simply want to call it /events/

I’m not 100% sure, but I know there are a few that cannot be used because they are reserved by other plugins. For example, post type “product”, which is reserved by WooCommerce. The other possibility is that you already have something else that uses it, such as a page that is in the trash. If that’s the case, you can permanently delete the trashed page to free up the name. But if it is one of the reserved words, then I’m not sure there’s anything that can be done.

    Hey @cavalierlife

I believe that a slug could be reserved for a plugin that is actually installed and active on your site, yes that would definitely make sense, however right now we’re talking about a clean WP install with only Elementor installed.

So I understand that /product/ may be reserved for Woocommerce, IF Woocommerce is present on the site, but If I don’t use Woocommerce on my site and it has never been installed, then I should be free to use /product/ slug for whatever I want, right?

So unless Elementor reserves the /events/ slug for whatever reason, then I should be free to use it as there is currently no Events plugin installed and no page with an /events/ slug in a bin either.

Would you mind me asking, is there a reason why you’re getting involved into every support thread here on the forum?? Are you a part of the Elementor support team?

Is there any chance we could actually hear from the plugin author?

Hi Joe. Yes, there is a reason I’m getting involved in as many support threads here as possible. I am the front line support for Elementor for this forum. I have a request in to the developers to try to clarify this issue, and once I hear from them I will let you know what is said.

Are you using Elementor Pro? If so, you can open a support ticket at my.elementor.com. www.ads-software.com rules state that commercial products are not supported here. Pro users can ask for the support team to login to their site to help troubleshoot problems as well.

If you are just using the free version, then hang tight, and I’ll update this thread with whatever I hear from the developers.

    Hi @cavalierlife ,

Thanks, I’m waiting to hear back.

Yes, I’m using the free version of the plugin.

    Hey @lisaelementor ,

Thanks, that’s good to know ?? I guess I just wanted to make sure that my message gets through to the right people.

Hi Joe. I’ve been told that while Elementor doesn’t have reserved words, various plugins do, and of course WordPress core also has a list of reserved words. It’s possible that either a CPT plugin or another plugin has reserved the word “events”, but Elementor has not. A good test would be to deactivate Elementor to ensure it’s not related to the issue. And I know that this is a clean install for you, but just for the sake of anyone else reading this who might have the same problem, if you’ve ever used the word as the slug before, it may still be reserved as “in use”, even if it was deleted.

So unfortunately I don’t know why events has become a reserved term for you, but something somewhere has made it so. I hope you find it.

Even though this post is 5 months old: Joe, you can still list “Events” but link to a modified version of that name in the link. IE. Events in the menu title but the url is /Eventsnew

    Hey @lestexas60 ,

Thanks for your input. I kinda gave up on this, got busy with something else and just had to put a couple of things on hold.

Yes I know that you can list ‘Events’ in the menu, and then list something else for the url like /events-new-or-whatever , but is this really a solution??
    Is that what you want?

Or would you rather prefer a clean url that would be domain.com/events ?
