I noticed that anywhere I put a < on my site followed by some text, e.g., the text <email address>, it gets parsed as an HTML tag. This happens in the block editor, but also in other places.

This is not default WordPress behavior (it should convert the text to HTML entities) so I started disabling plugins one by one. Turns out WPO is doing something, causing such text to be parsed as HTML. This is not only a bug, but I think it’s also a security issue since any user can now insert HTML (and script) tags, right?

And it happens everywhere. Not just in posts and pages (edited with block editor) but also in things like Learndash quiz answers. I tried finding out if it is a combination of plugins that causing it, but so far it seems to be related solely to WPO.

Since I use these “less than” signs a lot (site about programming), it messed up much of my content. This has been going on for quite some time, so I can’t say since when this is happening. I only recently discovered the problem.

  • @eriky82 Could you please try to downgrade the WP-Optimize to 3.2.3 version and check if it helps to fix the issue?

However, we will debug the issue on our side and if its a bug we will fix it in next release.

Hi, sorry I uninstalled it for now. I’m curious if you can reproduce the issue or if it was something weird on my end (e.g., a bad combination of plugins or something).

@eriky82 Yes, I’ve reported the issue to our development team for further investigation and if its a bug it will be fixed in next release.
