Toolbars show correctly if I edit an existing page or post, but I get no toolbars in either Visual or Text modes when creating a new page or post and get white text on a white background in the edit box.

However, once I give the page/post a title and Save Draft, the toolbars do appear and text is black. Delete the title again and save draft, toolbars disappear again. Not tried publishing a page/post.

Works properly here. This means there are js errors on the page. It’s strange that this happens only for new posts and pages. Could you look in the browser tools and paste the first error here to try to figure it out ??

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the quick response.

This is a bit outside my comfort zone, but (trying to copy what looks like the relevant info from the Chrome console):

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1

[Intervention] Slow network is detected. See https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5636954674692096 for more details. Fallback font will be used while loading: https://www.<domain>.com/wp-content/plugins/google-captcha/bws_menu/fonts/bwsicons.ttf?edecf2
(I think this has to do with the BestWebSoft CAPTCHA plugin)

(There are several more similar errors, but I have no idea what they are)

The first that mentions tinymce is:

Is that what you’re looking for? If not, let me know – I can usually follow instructions…

Ah. I noticed that the page didn’t seem to finish loading. I went away for a bit and have just come back to it – the toolbars are now visible. If I refresh, the toolbars don’t show but the page is still loading. Maybe a server cache issue? Although why would having a post title and saving draft make a difference?

Let me test a bit more…

Yes, it is, unfortunately it doesn’t shed more light on what’s going on…

That’s probably the cause. But as you note the question is why it happens only on new posts ??

There is definitely “something” going on with loading of web fonts. Haven’t seen anything like that before though. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is some browser extension or even antivirus/web “protection” software that is doing something with web fonts, but then it will always happen. Is it possible you have a WP plugin that deals with fonts (other than Jetpack)? If yes, perhaps try disabling it for testing.

If no, perhaps try one of the plugins that disable loading of external (google) fonts? There should be several in the plugins repo.

No response in over two months. Assuming this has been resolved.

Apologies, Andrew. It’s on my wife’s PC on her own website. Just asked her and she says she’s not seen it recently. There must have been something delaying the page loading, but whatever it was, it’s resolved itself. All OK now.

Thanks for checking!

No problems, I’m glad it’s working as expected now. Thanks for confirming! ??
