• On a new article coming out Monday, 11/6/2023 I tried manually linking the above page and https://nurse.2abraham.com/whats-the-process-of-getting-your-loved-one-on-hospice-service/ as manually related posts.

PRIOR to the most recent batch of updates, I could put in the ID (53 for starting hospice) and 3828 for the understanding heart failure classification and it worked WONDERFULLY and consistently (consistency always matters).

The new system allows you to start typing in a title, but DOES NOT WORK consistently and for my purposes DOES NOT WORK at all.

I tried putting in “heart failure” (with or without quotes), nothing, cardiac nothing, manually re-entering the id’s and it goes to the WRONG ID.

I’m about to switch plugins because consistently working even if lesser quality relationship choices is better than complete failure to work properly.

    Can this bug be fixed?

    Thank you.

Are you entering the exact title of the post to search for the related post. When you enter heart failure, do you see the post or it’s completely missing any posts? You can’t enter the IDs currently as the search is for text, but I do like the idea of searching by ID. Let me see how I can implement that.

An alternative option that you could do is the Quick Edit functionality from the post listings page. You can manually enter the IDs of the posts in there and the plugin should pick that up.

See the release post video: https://webberzone.com/announcements/contextual-related-posts-v3-4-0/

I’ve tried the exact title, parts of the title, and even with the ID, it’s pulling from the wrong ID. I preferred to enter ID’s as that was accurate and working consistently. The new updates does not work. I put in the correct id, it pulls from the wrong id…. and again, titles — complete or portion, gets it wrong.

Noted. I’ll do more tests. I’m confused why it doesn’t work – unless there is some clash with a plugin that I am not aware of. Are you using the new editor or classic editor

Are you able to try the Quick Edit functionality as I mentioned above.

Thank you for looking. Guetenburg (spelling)…. for the editor. The quick edit worked as I was able to use the id’s and they pulled correctly. But if I’m editing the page itself, title (complete or partial) does not work and id’s don’t work.

I noticed there are issues with the lookup because it’s not pulling in only Published posts – but also revisions which is why there is an issue. I’ll work to get this fixed.

    I’ve filed a bug report.

Are you in a position to test out a beta release on your site?

This one adds a new feature to search by post ID if you enter a number. I’ve also fixed the bug I mentioned above.

I installed the beta, but on a scheduled post (to be published this coming Mondy) dealing with how families and caregivers can help their loved one with heart failure.. I’m trying to manually relate https://nurse.2abraham.com/understanding-heart-failure-stages-and-assessment/ and https://nurse.2abraham.com/whats-the-process-of-getting-your-loved-one-on-hospice-service/ — post ids 3828 and 53 respectively.

I’m not sure how to take a screen shot as I use snip it and the moment the editor loses focus, the drop down with only three selections (none of which match the titles even closely) so I’m not able to take a screen shot.

I start typing in “Understanding Heart Failure Stages and Assessment” or just use “heart” or “heart failure” and it shows https://nurse.2abraham.com/ethical-dilemmas-in-hospice/ and other articles dealing with DNR (code status for what to do if someone is dying)…. but not the heart failure article.

If I type in 53 (the start hospice article), it shows the DNR and terminally ill article.

And I did install https://github.com/WebberZone/contextual-related-posts/releases/tag/v3.4.2-beta1 asking it to replace the current version installed.

P.S. I tried putting in 53, and it pulls up id 84.

ID 3828 did pull up correctly.

I did try putting in 053 and it pulled 53 if that helps you with the coding, but 53 by itself pulls up 84.

When you enter 53, do you just get 84 or do you get 53 as well as others? I think the 053 forced it to a post ID. Plus the live search needs at least 3 characters to function.

The issue with trying to force a post ID is that if a user searches for a number which is for the post title, it will end up ignoring the titles and only return the ID.

What I am confused about is the text searches on your site. One thing I should have explained is that for text searches, it tries to find related posts i.e. using the same matching algorithm in the front but also finds titles and content that should have the term. However, if you have anything in your related posts settings that ignore posts then it might cause an issue.

Have you made any changes to Settings > Related Posts?

    (@ajay)

In your settings page, can you tell me if you have the setting in List tuning enabled ot search for content as well as title? I’m wondering if that is creating the issue i.e. the content is taking priority over the title.

Thanks for this. The one thing that I think I need to figure out is how to allow two digit numbers as it seems like that is an issue in my mind to make the ID lookup work. The good part is that padding 0 as you did works well. Maybe one thing for me to consider and figure out.

I will also change a few things on the lookup as I think the current related lookup isn’t working properly to rank posts which is why you get the ones that don’t work when you only want the title. Let me come back with a revised beta version.

Thank you for patiently testing this vs abandoning my plugin. Some of these features only get refined with real user feedback.
