• Have you ever seen a problem with multiple issuances of meeting invitations (spam) from an on-premises wordpress server. The server is not accessible by Internet but benefits from an outgoing smtp connection. We have received multiple invitations to our mailboxes from the email address defined on our WP server. These invitations referred to previous legitimate invitations. The WP server has its own mailbox on an Office 365 mailbox. The mailbox being protected by a strong password and there was no unusual activity. Could this be a Microsoft bug?

  • Receiving fake calendar invites as means of bringing attention to showcasing spam content has been around for a while now. What you describe fits that bill. I don’t think WordPress has any role in that at all. If you want to look into this more, I suggest reading articles when you search for “Calendar spam” or “meeting invitations spam” in a search engine.
