• I have a blog hosted on wordpress.com. It’s a paid account but not self-hosted. I want to change it from a blog to a website but this will require rejigging of the content. I’d like to keep my current blog up while I do this and then when the website format is ready switch over to it. I’ve searched this topic but have only found info that relates to self-hosted sites. Is this possible on a blog that’s not self-hosted? Thanks in advance for any help. Elaine

  • Why don’t you get a regular hosting plan and install WordPress, build what you want and then transfer your blog content to your new website?

I’m not too familiar with wordpress.com-hosted sites but shouldn’t it be possible to export and import content there, too? So, you could install a self-hosted version of WordPress on a local development server, export the content from WordPress.com, import in your local dev environment, do the work you need to do, and then export and import it back to the live site?

If you want to migrate your blog to a self hosted WordPress site then please check this link.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

Thanks Jan for pointing me to the right location. I have found it impossible to find out where I should ask this question so I do appreciate you clarifying that for me.

Perhaps this information could be a bit clearer for newbies so we don’t end up wasting people’s time like this.
