• I have spent a lot of time to describe all my images with title and description. Now it was necessary to change the watermark of all my images. I have used NextGEN 2.0.7 the bulk action: “Set watermark” in “Manage Galleries” for all my galleries. After this all my descriptions are gone, on all images now is: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA!! “Set watermark” seems to run implicit “Import metadata”.
Is this a bug or is this a feature, I don’t know?
But if this should be a feature, please put in future versions a confirmation dialog for the user that all descriptions will be overwritten with the EXIF metadata.

@UnderWordPress: We’ve duplicated this issue and added it to our issue list. It definitely should reset your meta. Did you add descriptions manually, or did you add them as meta data and the fields were populated when you imported?

If the descriptions are in the meta data, I’m wondering if you can retrieve them by going back to the gallery selecting an image, and either clicking Import Meta Data or Recover and then Import Meta Data?

Yes, I added manually written all descriptions to a lot of images.
I tested it now on one image again.
I’ve typed manually title and description.
Than I’ve checked this image and let run “Set watermark”.
When done title and description was updated to “OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA”.
I’ve examined the original image. The string “OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA” comes not from EXIF, it comes from the TIFF header which is additionally in the header of the JPG (on Mac the Preview.app shows this TIFF-section on “information”). In this TIFF header is a “title”-tag. It looks like NextGEN on upload put this TITLE value into ngg_pictures table column “meta_data”. And it seems that (if exists) a title value in meta_data overwrite the manually values of title and description while running “Set watermark” (maybe on other function too).
That is what I have find out until now.

Here is a screenshot from the TIFF header in JPG-File.

    Hope it helps.

I have made a MySQL-Dump and open this into texteditor. I found in every “meta_data” column.

    see https://up.picr.de/15514952cj.jpg
From this origin NextGen overwrite the description and alttext.
If there is no “title” in meta_data, the problem does not appear.
