• Hello
I am rearranging my categories, now I can see how I can bulk add posts to a new category but how do I bulk remove from the previous category?

For example I have a lot of posts in the category ‘Politics and Government’ which I want to change to category ‘European Union’.

When I go to bulk edit it gives me the option to add the posts to other categories but even though ‘Politics and Government’ is un-ticked and the ONLY box ticked is ‘European Union’ it does add the posts to the ‘European Union’ category but the post also remains in the ‘Politics and Government’ category even though it was not ticked which seems to mean bulk editing isn’t working correctly.

Also, as an aside, when I delete a category it is no longer asking me which of the remaining categories I want to send the posts to, just deletes the posts.

Any ideas or am I just not doing it correctly, thank you, in anticipation, for your help
    Phil

  • Hey dalewood,

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re having trouble. But this is how WordPress works by default, It shows the category unchecked because it may be the possibility that all post has different category so it will not be correct to show checked assigned category and so Un-Checking the category does not remove the category from post.

I have not used this plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/batchmove/, but by description it seems it can solve your problem.

Also, as an aside, when I delete a category it is no longer asking me which of the remaining categories I want to send the posts to, just deletes the posts.

Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category Uncategorized. https://goo.gl/lXhwMq

I hope it will help you.

    Good Luck
    Juhi
