• Select a few posts in a post list

    Choose “Bulk Edit” and Apply…
The quick edit mass changes panel comes up…
The current category is not checked in the scrolling list…
This makes managing categories in bulk impossible!

Furthermore i’ve noticed this problem since i got into using WordPress at around version 2.7!

What do i do? File a bug report? ??

  • This is not a bug. The code specificallly says

    * Updates all bulk edited posts/pages, adding (but not removing) tags and
    * categories. Skips pages when they would be their own parent or child.

You would have to make this a feature request.

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a reason – logically – why it should not be allowed. However there maybe some programitic reason why it shouldn’t be allowed.

The problem is in the interface, which is counter intuitive if it says “Bulk edit” and includes the categories in a list without mentioning any of those caveats. Apart from that i can’t think of an earthly reason why it won’t work programmatically. I have custom taxonomies running, they all come up in the mass edit panel and they all work as expected.

It is strange to see the same stumbling block 5 years down the road with WordPress but i suppose it could get overlooked. Maybe most bloggers or other users don’t want to switch categories for 30 posts or more and it’s not reported. In this instance it’s a large photo archive and it definitely needs that capability.

Anyway i’ve made enough hot air or bytes here, i’ll head off to feature requests…

To be perfectly honest, I never new you could do bulk edits till I tread your post and I’ve been using WordPress since 2006 which goes to show you canlearn something new every day.
