Bulk Edit Primary Category

    Hello,

    We have just expanded our product lines greatly and are having a restructure with regards to categories etc.

    Going onto every single product to now select the correct primary category to be reflected in the breadcrumbs is a logistical nightmare.

    We would like to be able to do this from the Product list screen in the backend, so we can select a bunch of products, select Edit from the dropdown and then select an appropriate primary category from here.

    This is an open feature suggestion: https://github.com/sybrew/the-seo-framework/issues/512.

    I see no reason to hold it in limbo, so I scheduled it for the next major release. That might take a while (read: months), though.

    There are workarounds, yes. Anything is possible, but if your request is too complex, I might not be able to provide an adequate answer.

    Say you have posts with category ID 42 assigned, and all those posts should have that category be the primary one. If this is your request, I can provide you with a quick workaround.

    That’s great to hear as we have a load of products which need editing and this will save us hours!

    If we are able to change the category ID so we can assign primary for different categories that’s perfect. Also to confirm, all of the products we have which would be assigned this category would be changed to primary – E.G. ‘Breed > Labrador > Cards‘

    Hi Masidus,

    Sorry for the delay; the release took a chunk of my time.

    Are you saying you have 3 hierarchical categories attached to a post and always want the bottom child to be assigned as primary? And, per your example, never will a post have “Labrador” as a primary category, but always “Cards”?

    Hi Sybre,

    No worries at all, we have also been very busy!

    I think we are on the same page of understanding – at the current time, every product which has a third hierarchical category (we think) will have that as the primary category. If a product has this category then we definitely want that as the primary.

    Just to confirm, we have a load of breeds so we would need to ensure that each product is assigned the correct subcategory – so for this link below the card the desired result is ‘Browse by Breed > Golden Retriever > Cards‘
