Bulletproof Security – problems uninstalling
-
I installed Bulletproof Security on my site a month ago. All was well until I tried to update the plugin, then when I tried to re-secure the .htaccess file in the wp-admin folder the site broke and every page displayed a 404 error. In addition I was unable to access the WordPress Dashboard.
By deleting Bulletproof Security from the plugin folder and restoring the previous code in the wp-admin/.htaccess file I was able to access the site and backend again. I’ve tried reinstalling the plugin several times but i still have the same problem when I try to secure the .htaccess file in wp-admin: the site and WordPress Dashboard break and are inaccessible.
Bulletproof Security is currently uninstalled and the the site is up and running, but I now notice that the .htaccess file in the root still contains Bulletproof code, and if I try and delete it I receive 404 errors on the site again.
My questions are:
1. How can I best remove all traces of this plugin so that I can attempt a clean install in the future?
2. Will a clean install help to avoid the problems I’ve been having when I try to secure the .htaccess file? The site is https://englishlc.com/ and any advice would be much appreciated.
