We have the business directory set up and running. My client has asked whether the following is possible with this plugin…
    1) Business to log in and amend their details, or request removal
    2) Ability for business to upload a product, and for these products to be listed under the business details
    3) Ability for businesses to upload a news article based on that business, and for these articles to be listed under the business details.

    Many thanks

    Hi jtibbles,

Let me see if I can answer those for you here:
    1) Businesses can login and amend their details if they are the owner of a listing. You can use the Claim Listing module if you want businesses to do this with previously entered listings, too. Once claimed, they can delete it if they desire.

    2) What do you mean by “product” here? We have an attachments module that has some limited allowed uploads, such as TXT, PDF, and RTF as well as image types. But we don’t allow just anything (such as DOC or XLS, since they can transmit macro viruses like the plague!).

    3) If the attachment fits in with the allowed types above, you could do that.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!

So for example, a business may release something new and want to showcase it, that works a bit like a post. They need to give it a title, some text and an image. Also we need a similar system for press releases where the business can add new ones as and when they need to, all under the Id of that particular business.
The result of this would be that viewers can see a list of all products and press releases linked to that business, and also separately can view a list of “latest products” and “latest press releases”.

OK–if a product is more like a full page or post, we don’t have support for that in our directory at this time. Only the attachments noted above.

Thanks for the reply. I think there’s probably a good workaround using custom posts with custom fields that link the business directory ids to a post.

    I have the same needs and… I found a solution…
I will create a plugin with 3 or more tables.
News are the easier and will be ready in 1 week. You need one table for this, 1 form to add the news and 1 change in listing template to add these news… And also I was thinking about a page with all news …

Products will be ready arround 1st march. But I will make one type of product in order to reach my goals…
I will tell you about soon…

Hi Magicianul, that sounds great. The proposal I gave to my client was to utilise the Front End Pro plugin and include the Business Listing ID as one of the required fields. Posts created using Front End Pro can be monetised too so it goes some way (although slightly messy) towards the client’s request.

But I would be interested to see how things go with your plugin.

    Update..
I will follow this plugin ideas and no table needed… only post_type in wp_post….You can add anything with pictures also…
Step 1: insert new post/article with pictures and all you want…
Step2: update post type in a special form to product, ex. update post_type field to “wpbd_product”
Step3: chain the post with your listing in a form by inserting into wp_postmeta 1 metakey there which will chain your product to the listing
Step4: change template listing to add links to the posts found in wp_post marked as products and in wp_postmeta with your listing id

    And that’s all folks!

    I am brilliant! :))

Sounds good ?? – although important to note that when a user who owns a business listing wants to add a product, they should only be able to link the product to one of their own business listings. Whereas an admin should be able to link a product to any business listing.
Even better would be the ability to allow certain business listings a fixed set number of products depending on their subscription. For example business in the “silver package” get 10 products, whereas businesses in the “gold package” get unlimited etc

Nice tips… the user rights were in my mind of course but the fixed set of products is a very interesting idea….
    Thanks!
