Button becoming enabled after update but with no number

    We have a number of sites that have the plugin installed but not enabled and so have no telephone number entered. We’ve noticed over the last few weeks that if we update the plugin on one of these sites the Call Now Button gets enabled and shows on the site but with no telephone number. Is this a bug?

    Hi there, thanks again for your message. We’ve gone through a large number of update processes from various versions to the latest version of the plugin but we’re unable to reproduce the issue you’re describing. At no point is the button status automatically toggled from “disabled” to “enabled”. It’s also always been possible to enable the button without a value in the number field – so that’s not a bug. The only change we’ve made to the status setting was moving it to a different “Settings” page that you can now directly access from the navigation on the left side of the admin screen.

    In the next release we’ll add a notification message to the plugin that makes users aware when the button is active without a phone number. We’re not removing this option as some users are adding a phone number dynamically on the front-end.

    I’m closing this issue for now, but let me know if you disagree and we’ll investigate further.

    Hi Jerry, that’s fine, we’ll keep an eye. We can’t work out what might be happening. We scan our sites weekly for problems, and one issue we watch for is a Call Now button with no number. For a while now we’ve see some every week where the Call Now button wasn’t there in the previous scan but is now in the current scan but has no number and the only thing that has changed in between is that WordPress / plugins were all updated.

    Really cool that you’re scanning your sites regularly for issues. Curious to hear which tools you’re using for that. Regarding the issue, there was a bug in version 0.4.4 that showed a label with the phone number on top of the original text label of the button. This was quickly fixed with the release of version 0.4.5 the next day. That might have caused your scanning system to flag this as a disappearing number as that number label was then removed again. Just a guess. I appreciate that you took the time to flag this. We’ll pay extra attention to this in future updates to be sure.
