  • Hi, _Entrepreneur!

Sorry to hear about your counts being reset. Unfortunately, social networks record likes and shares against the full URL. If any portion of the URL changes – the protocol, subdomain, domain, or path – then that’s seen as a unique URL that has a different share count to your original one.

Changing from HTTP to HTTPS will reset your post counts, because networks see https://example.com/your-post/ as a different URL to https://example.com/your-post/. At this time, there’s no way to force networks to treat the two URLs as the same resource – they don’t take redirects or canonical tags into account, for example.

Our development team is exploring ways to work around this (see https://github.com/copyblogger/genesis-simple-share/issues/54 ), but I’m afraid I don’t have a quick workaround I can offer at this time – sorry for the trouble!

Thanks for the info. I found the site below about how to possibly modify the plugin but this really only forces http or vice versa to be used but ultimtelay it doesn’t sync them up so that the count is correct no matter which url is passed.
