I noticed the stylized eye used to hide the Info bar of the images in the gallery and it works well, but the location seems quite unfortunate to me: lower left, way far from the text. Also, not very big.

Since the X button to close the image altogether is in the “bottom right” corner of the top Info bar with the text, why not putting the button to hide the Info bar itself on the top right corner? one hides the info, one closes the image.

Also, at least in my setup the X button to close the image… stays in place, at mid-height, even if I close the Info bar.

I would recommend putting the big X to close the image on the top-right corner of the image, and directly on its left the button to hide the Info bar.
Both easy to spot, and the big X is unobtrusive when the Info bar is closed, instead of hanging somewhere in the middle-right.
