• Hi, I’ve noticed that when you add buttons in the latest version of wordpress using the block editor and the buttons block, then I link to that button using the block toolbar within said buttons block, when either publishing or previewing the page or post, screen readers doesn’t even recognize that it’s a button rather, it’s just telling me that it’s a link that I’ve either linked to said URL or page with said button. Is this only a visual aspect to make a link look like a button because quite honestly, if it’s suppose to look like a button visually, then that info should be conveyed to screen readers and the like, making it an actual button instead of a link. Unless I’m missing something, of which, I don’t think so at all. These are the steps I’m doing.
    1.
    insert the button block
    2.
type in the text I want for that call to action button.
    3.
    select said text.
    4.
shift tab once to the block toolbar.
    5.
    click on the link button
    6.
enter in said URL or page and hit submit.
    7.
    preview or publish.
button shows up as a link instead of an actual button to screen readers. I’m thinking this should indeed be fixed because as of right now, this is not accurate to people who are using screen readers.
If there is indeed anything that I’m missing, which vary well could be, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks all.

  • I just checked this, and the native “Button” block is not a real button at all.

That is to say… it doesn’t use the <button> HTML element. It’s just a regular anchor (<a>) tag styled as a button, and named as such.

Is this only a visual aspect to make a link look like a button

    Yes.
