Buying a Domain name

  • I started a company with someone and her father was helping us set up the website. He passed suddenly, and it’s been difficult getting everything in order.
    I just now was able to figure out my password, and get into the site, but I want to know who exactly owns the domain name and how I can buy it and start paying for it. If someone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

  • What domain are you looking to buy?

    https://www.networksolutions.com you can go there and type in the domain you want and make sure it is available. After you see if it is, you can buy it for one, two or three years and then you need to point your website material to that domain name using DNS.

    First step is to buy the site though.

    The Domain name is already bought. I want to know who actually owns it, and if I can purchase it somehow. So it isn’t available.

    That I am not sure of unfortunately.

    I am sure someone who this board will know though they all seem knowledgeable.

    Firstly, make a who.is search to know who owns it (unless it is protected by proxy settings). Secondly, as you already know the people with whom you wanted to start the site, you can start it with their cooperation as you already had an understanding with someone of them. If you want to purchase the domain, only the legal heirs of the person who passed away can transfer it to you.
