Buying a wordpress site, how to transfer?

  • Hi guys, I’m in the process of buying my first site… it’s a wordpress site.

    So, if the sale goes through, is this what I need to do

    1. transfer domain to me
    2. he needs to give me the wp admin username and password
    2. he needs to zip up the entire site, and i just ftp it up?

    There’s services on fiverr that offer to move your site to a new host, but, is it not a matter of just zipping it up, and then ftping it up?

  • The best way to transfer a site from one server to the other is to do it via cPanel. It will transfer the entire “Account” (WordPress files, database, etc).

    After the account is transferred, have him change the DNS for the domain to point to your nameservers. After that’s completed, start the process of transferring the actual domain.

    This is the fastest way to do it. The site will also be up through out the entire process.

    Awesome, thanks… I’ll go with the fiverr gig, I don’t like messing about with cpanel.
