"Call to undefined function" error

I am trying to start a blog on a selfhosted site. The webpage opens with url mydomaninname.com/wp however a fatal error “Call to undefined function get_header() in /home/thetrqaw/public_html/index.php on line 2” occurs on typing the url name as mydomainname.com in the browser. I am new to WP. Please help.
