• Anyone already running Calypso with a self-hosted site?
Nice to hear some insights if anyone tried that out…
Would be also awesome to see major plugins like ACF & Yoast adapt to this major change.
    Cheers.

Do you mean running a self-hosted installation of Calypso yourself, or using your self-hosted blog via Calypso at WordPress.com or the Mac app?

Using my self-hosted site via Calypso at WordPress.com or the Mac App.
I understood it can be done easily via one of the Jetpack modules.
However, I assume it doesn’t integrate perfectly yet with most plugins out there… So haven’t tried it yet..

Give it a shot, you’ve got nothing to lose, and I highly recommend it. ??

I’m writing a post about the app in the app at this very moment.

You’ll need https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/jetpack/ of course, connected to your WordPress.com account, and the Manage module enabled at Jetpack -> Settings. Once you log in to WordPress.com or the Mac app under that same WordPress.com account, your self-hosted blog will be one of the blogs you can interact with.

Jetpack-specific instructions and info at https://jetpack.me/2015/11/23/jwordpress-com-app-for-mac/

Calypso does not yet support third-party elements, like ACF and Yoast SEO, but anything you can do with WordPress and Jetpack can be done in Calypso and the Mac app.

Thanks for the informative response !
Well, for main my site it won’t be possible as I heavily depend on ACF Pro and a few more.
But will definitely try it out on another project.

    You’re welcome!

I am very interested in this. Is there a way to run calypso on my self-hosted website? Completely install and run it on my own, not with JetPack. If not yet, when should we expect it? I believe that’s the only way I can implement my own hacks to make calypso go well with my needs.

sba7elfol – The short answer is no, and don’t expect anything different because JetPack fulfills that need.

That said, if you were to replicate how JetPack interfaces with wordpress.com, then you may be able to work around not using JetPack in name, but you will have essentially reinvented your own version of JetPack. I see little to gain and much to lose by doing this.

    @bcworkz Thanks for your answer.

We use plugins that require authors to fill some extra fields which the site theme needs. Without those fields (which current calypso does not support obviously), our posts would look broken. This renders the current calypso unusable for us.

If you yourself or somebody you know can be hired to do the word needed with JetPack as you said, please get in touch: [email protected]

Please do not solicit paid work in these forums, and no one should accept such offers here. https://jobs.wordpress.net is the place for such things. In any case, I’m not able to help you, sorry.

From your description, it doesn’t sound like you need a JetPack workaround as much as a self-hosted Calypso-like implementation. I’m unaware of any such thing.
