Can a database be created in the same folder as WP?
-
I donate graphic work to 2 local nonprofits. One would like me to revise their WordPress website. I’ve started to re-learn WordPress at lynda.com and in January at our local tech college. Both need a hosted WordPress install for the homework. A friend says I can install WordPress in a folder on his non-WP website space. I’ve done that. But I don’t know how (or if) to create and link a database in that folder to work with WP. I guess the regular way would be to use the Control Panel for my friend’s enveloping site to create a database, and then add the details of that DB to the wp-config.php file that’s part of my WP install in the folder. That worries me. I worry that a database created in my friend’s Control Panel might effect something in my friend’s site. Directly or indirectly. I feel that respect says I shouldn’t take any chances with his site.
I’m starting to think that installing an independent WordPress website within my friend’s site may be too risky to attempt, especially for someone who is relearning everything he used to know about WP… (I’m 78)
