• my freinds all really like my site, but due to the impersonality of the internet, I can get a more negative (more truthful) answer if I asked a few of you.
still working on some things, the wiki was recently reinstalled, so it’s almost at the default settings, and I’m still getting to login merging (if you register longterm, register on the Community Forums, as they will be the authorization in future.
also, to give some bacground. my birthday was coming up and I couldn’t think of any one thing to make it about, so I made it a forum
( used to only have phpBB on it, added WordPress second)
for random conversation, which then gt morphed to “a Hub for the Open Minded” so is my slogan now. the forum is mostly black because it’s a warm homey color in an environment of total strangers (though I make personal usergroups for cliques)
    Okay, I’m done with my monolougue. . . . .

  • It sounds like you chose the black theme purpose… but…
I didn’t find a warm feel to it. I like your analogy of ‘stranger’. That made me pause to think. I felt like I was in a club or something! I’m very new to this and don’t know my way around AT ALL. Your site is completely different from mine…nice change of pace.
So I guess, my only input is it seems you can arrive at the same feel without using all black. But I did read you have personal user groups. Sounds like you have a way out of the darkness! Unfortunately, don’t quite know how to access “user groups”! I wish I could do that “my site” back-link too! Nice.

Oh, can you tell me how to do a login bridge of some sort to keep folks coming back?

    alright, prepare for another monolougue:
to do the in-site Community, I suggest phpBB, it looks snazzy, free, has an amazing community, and lots of bridges to WordPress
the bridge I used (note: I tried something called phpauth that failed) is the following:
    WordPress Article
phpBB article: . . . just kidding, there is discussion, but no topic has been created ( to my knowledge) of this plugin

How this works: first, install phpBB ( I used Cpanel), I suggest putting it in one directory if you can manage (my site actually has two Forums, but I assigned a redirect to one and directed the config.php, so it looks like I only have one. I messed up on the first one, so I put my Backup on a directory called “Community”)
once you have it installed and activated, you should see a little tab for it, click the tab and you should encounter something like this:

Path to Config.php: *insert Path here*
URL to ucp.php: *insert URL here* (ucp stands for user control panel)
    Activate Bridge: o yes
    o no

    to explain:
the config.php has all of the user data for the forum, when assigned correctly, only registered users on the forum will have accounts ( I think, haven’t muddled much on the matter, my Homepage fell flat before this.)
and the ucp URL assigns a redirect
you should receive four widgets for integration, make sure to be a little conservative about them though, they take up a LOT of room.
If you have trouble still, just email me a good on-screen recording software thats free and I’ll make a tutorial and put it up on my File share in the site’s Wiki section.

thank you for the compliments ?? I’ll work on the homey vibe some more, it’s difficult without using the shade of brown that makes everything hard to read. . .

if you install MODS in phpBB, keep in mind that it is VERY different from plugins in wordpress, you manually move and edit files in phpBB, unless you get a little thing called automod, I know how to explain it, but I think I might be running out of room. . ..

by the way, to Acces “Usergroups” ( if you have an account) it should be under a tab in the User control Panel

sorry for the long message, it’s hard to stop once you start. . . . oh well, by the way, the fact that all of the Glicks things appear double is a coding error that I’m fixing, sp please ignore the second set of statistics at the bottom ??

    Thanks for the info.

The simplicity and layout of the theme, rocks. It sets a mood, but doesn’t overpower. If you are at all into the psychology of colors, substituting a deeper/cooler blue for the red/pink you currently display, could have a significant impact on page views and hang time considering the dark nature of the background.

The last time I gave a completely truthful opinion on someones site, they went ape and a moderator locked the thread. I’m just going to say that your site needs a bit of work and stop the “opinion” piece right there.

You treat navigation like a blog entry, and have the about and contact sections as blog entries when they would server better as a page. Sections like contact and about don’t need things like “date posted on” or “filed under” or “comments”. They’re informational pieces and functional pieces (user sends you a message through the form, so what does the creation date of that form have to do with anything?)

Announcements has comments open. It would make sense if it were a threaded discussion on the progression of the website, but as there is only one “announcement” and it’s about a wiki page with no need for interaction, the ability to comment on this page seems odd.

You have your site navigation in links, although the first link in the links page would suggest its going to transform into some sort of bookmarks/partners page. It would seem more beneficial to have your site navigation in a place that would be placed on every page of the site, like in the sidebar or the header.

Weekly feature… see the above comment about the announcements page.

Ask me? No,It’s chinese on gsdme.com.
I have put a translter on my blog of https://gsdme.com,click the flag represent different language on the slidebar (under Google Translater).
    The translate maybe somekind bad

    (@darksminky)

@gsdme yayyyy!!!! I now have a couple links up, adding more, I have a translator up on my Worpress, getting to translating my forum, it’s a lot harder

@boyevul thanks for the constructive critisisms, I’ll work on that, not sure why the moderator locked the topic last time

@claytonjames thank you for the advice, I’ll get google analytics and have an official test ??
