Can I add tags to pictures without a plugin?

    When I upload a picture file it propmts for titles and description but not tags. Is is possible to add tags to a picture in WP without using a plugin?

    I’m now getting more confused.

    With WP (and Suffusion) I can upload in image and add:
    title, alternate text, caption, description, files url.
    This is great but I’d also like to add tags, and I can’t find a way of doing that.

    If I use nextGen Gallery I can add Alt+title text (just one item), description, and tags. Alt text,a dn title are very different, why would they be rolled into one item?

    I’m a cartoonist and I need to give my images the best labels I can. I can’t decide whether to use WP or NextGenGallery.

    If someone could point me to an overview of how images can be labelled (and why) I’d be grateful. I’ve looked but I can only find very technical info.

    Not without a plugin – but the Shiba Media Library plugin is much more like the WP image system than NextGen Gallery…
