• My site is https://www.anthrovoices.com, I have multisite installed, most recent wordpress (4.1.1 I), hosting on godaddy. the site is a bit of a mess right now, I’m working on it.

Anyway, I want to set up a way to set members into a user role that will automatically generate them two pages (anthrovoices.com/username and anthrovoices.com/blogname). The username page would be only their profile page, with the blogname page giving them freedom to create/customize their blog. I only want users that contribute blogs to have this url for their profile page, though, with other members still showing up under anthrovoices.com/members/username (with less detailed profiles)

Is this possible (in a relatively simple way, as I’m not very advanced with this coding business yet) or would it have to be manually entered by a network admin each time?

apologies if this has been answered before or if it’s a stupid question, looked around and couldn’t quite figure out how to do it (but maybe I’m not using the right search words).

  • There’s no need to apologize! This is a perfectly reasonable question.

For the profile page aspect, you might try checking out some plugins that simply move the user’s default profile page to the front end so they don’t have to go into wp-admin to edit their profiles. Here’s a few and you could try searching similar queries for more like those. Many popular membership and e-commerce type plugins have this already included.

As for the other component, multisite by default allows users (depending on network level settings) to register for either a site + username or just a username. If they of their own accord select the former, they’ll be able to register their own blog.

I believe one of those profile page plugins may also allow you to customize the permalink for a user’s profile page to be members/username. If not, there are simple ways to do that.

I don’t think this takes you all the way there but feel free to jump back on here once you’ve taken a couple more steps or if you need clarification.

    Have an awesome day!
