    Hi there.

We built our WordPress website through a freelance developer. And she used her G account for G site kit. Now we want to move our site from ‘en.wonderfulps.com’ to ‘global.wonderfulps.com’. We did this site migration with Cloudways. Everything is fine except the original develper is reluctant to let us know her gmail account she used for our site’s G site kit. First we asked her to migrate our site and her estimate for this job was really steep like 3,000 us dollars. We asked around and hired a freelancer who offered a reasonable price. And the new freelancer is asking for the G account for the old site, but the original developer wouldn’t share her account info. She’s upset we didn’t give her the migration job.

What can we do? Is there any way, say, proving the site owership with relevent documents, to nullify the old G account and replace it with our G account?

Thanks for reaching out. If you’re looking to move your site from one subdomain to another, your Search Console data will be specific to the new domain. For that reason it’s no problem to use your own Google account for Search Console. When setting up and using Site Kit it will also verify whatever Google account you select, as an owner of that new Search Console property.

When it comes to Google Analytics, you will need to have access to the existing Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property if you want to be able to view metrics for the old domain (regardless of whether you use Site Kit or not). I understand that this is the issue you have, however, Site Kit will display Analytics data specific to the current subdomain it’s setup on anyway. For that reason, using your own Google account with a new property specific to your new subdomain may be the best option. As it sounds like you already migrated the site, I expect that Site Kit would have recognized the site URL change anyway, meaning you would have to select your own Google account to complete setup.

What can we do? Is there any way, say, proving the site owership with relevent documents, to nullify the old G account and replace it with our G account?

We can only assist with Site Kit queries here in the plugin support forums, and the issue you are reporting is to do with Search Console / Analytics permissions. While you may wish to reach out to the respective Help Centers (Search Console | Analytics), from what I gather this isn’t possible. In the case of Search Console, data is specific to the subdomain site anyway, so setting up the plugin on the new domain will ensure you have Search Console access (with data being collected only from the moment you set this up).

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thank you for your answer. I really appreciate it.

My biggest concerns are two things.

    1. There are many customers who know our old url and bookmarked it. We’d like to redirect ‘en.wonder…’ to ‘global.wonder..’ I heard if we can’t verify the ownership of the ‘en’ site, we can’t do this.
    2. If Google search engine recognizes two sites(en & global) respectively, it may think we’re copying the original site – abusing. I heard this could make our new site less visible/approachable in Google. We can delete the original site, but I hear Google keeps the data it got from the old site. How long do you think we should wait between removing the old site and launching the new site?

My understanding might be wrong. We’ll ask around here.

    Thanks

P.S. Could you delete our url(en.wonderfulps.com / global.wonderfulps.com) from my first writing? I’m afraid some of our customers may see them.

Thanks for the update. See below responses to your comments:

Applying a redirect can be done without the use of Site Kit. You do, however, need admin access to the en.***yoursite.com**** version of your site.

As mentioned above, you can verify ownership of this site which (in Search Console) you are moving away from if you wish, by setting up Site Kit with your own Google account. You will need to also have admin access in order to do this.

That’s a good point @raining211, however, the product experts over at the Search Console Help Center would be better equipped to answer such questions than me. You mentioned you were migrating your site, so you could always use the Change of Address tool, or define the canonical (original and main) version. Unfortunately assistance with this is also something outside of the scope we can provide here in the Site Kit plugin support forums.

Let me know if you have any further questions with the above and hopefully I can assist or point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I’ll look into it.

By the way, I’d like to delete our url(en.wonderfulps.com / global.wonderfulps.com) from my first posting because our customers may see them. I couldn’t find the edit button below it. Could you help me with this?

Well fingers crossed you’ll be able to successfully migrate your site. Do let us know if you have any further questions on this.

As it sounds like you’ve been a Site Kit user for some time with the old website, if you have a moment free please also consider sharing your thoughts on the plugin so far.

By the way, I’d like to delete our url(en.wonderfulps.com / global.wonderfulps.com) from my first posting because our customers may see them. I couldn’t find the edit button below it. Could you help me with this?

Unfortunately we don’t have the ability to remove URL references from support topics. What you can do, with a good business case, is reach out to the moderators in the #forums channel of the WordPress Slack. See this post.
