    Hi again Roman,

    Is it possible to create 2 blogs on one website? For example in this case I would like a Case Studies section which you can see I’ve created, but it uses the blog facility. I would also like a separate blog – can this be done?

    Thanks so much,
    Jen

  • Hello Jen,

    You can create two separate post categories and use the category archives to display posts from each category separately. Please let me know if you need more help with this.

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman, yes please if you could explain this to me in basic terms it would be great! You can see at the moment that the Blog and Case Studies sections are showing the same items. If I publish something with the category ‘my blog page’ it adds it to the Blog and Case Studies.

    Thanks!
    Jen

    Hello Jen,

    Here is your Case Studies category archive:
    https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/category/case-studies/

    It’s created automatically upon category creation, you can use it as your Case Studies blog.

    You can similarly create Blog category and use its category archive:
    https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/category/blog/

    Please let me know if it’s still not clear.

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Thank you Roman – however the Blog section has now disappeared, even though I’ve tried to publish one blog – I have obviously done something wrong. Can you spot what it is?!

    Thanks,
    Jen

    Do I need to make the Blog page a ‘posts page’ somehow?

    Thanks,
    Jen

    Hello Jen,

    Do I need to make the Blog page a ‘posts page’ somehow?

    No, you don’t, because it will show all your posts in one place. It’s enough to have two category archives without a ‘posts page’ in order to achieve what you have described above.

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman, thanks for confirming. The Blog section has now disappeared, even though I’ve tried to publish one blog – I have obviously done something wrong. Can you spot what it is?!

    Hello Jen,

    Try to select Posts page in Customize → Homepage Settings section. But remember that it will show all your posts.

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman,

    Thanks, but I’m still having problems with this.

    What I’m trying to do is have some items showing as Case Studies and different items showing as Blog. At the moment the correct items are showing as Case Studies, but the issues are:
    a) the blog isn’t showing on the homepage
    b) the actual blog page when selected from the menu is showing the blog item and the case studies.

    I need to separate them somehow and bring the Blog section back to the homepage.

    Are you able to explain simply for me?

    Thanks!
    Jen

    Hello Jen,

    Please create a new Blog category in Posts → Categories section, assign it to your posts that should appear in Blog, and leave here a note.

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Hi Roman,

    Thanks for this, I’m getting there (slowly) although there are still problems:

    1. The correct articles are now showing on the homepage for Blog and Case Studies, so this is great! There are 3 Blogs and 3 Case Studies.

    2. When I click on ‘See All Blogs’ or ‘See All Case Studies’ it links to the homepage, rather than a page of all blogs or all case studies;

    3. When I click Blogs from the menu bar, it shows all 6 articles, rather than just the 3 that are assigned to Blog;

    4. When I click Case Studies it doesn’t show any articles (it should show 3)!

    It’s a bit of a muddle!

    Thank you,
    Jen

    Hi Roman,

    Further to my earlier message here is a screenshot of the categories section, in case it helps:

    Thanks,

    Hello Jen,

    2. When I click on ‘See All Blogs’ or ‘See All Case Studies’ it links to the homepage, rather than a page of all blogs or all case studies;

    By default that button links to the posts page. It can’t be changed easily, so you can hide those buttons (as a workaround):

    .widget #latest-news .all-news {
        display: none;
    }

    3. When I click Blogs from the menu bar, it shows all 6 articles, rather than just the 3 that are assigned to Blog;

    Your Blog menu item links to https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/blog/, but it should link to https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/category/blog/ Please remove this menu item and recreate it as a Custom Link with proper URL.

    4. When I click Case Studies it doesn’t show any articles (it should show 3)!

    Similarly, your Case Studies menu item links to https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/case-studies/, but it should link to https://haddonconsult.businessowl.co.uk/category/case-studies/

    Kind Regards, Roman.

    Morning Roman,

    Thanks for all of this – excellent, I’ve created custom links for the Blog and Case Studies and this is now working perfectly from the main menu.

    Regarding the Read more buttons for the Case Studies and Blogs, are you saying that it isn’t easy/possible to create the buttons? I’ve tried entering the custom links where it says “Enter the slug for your category or leave empty to show posts from all categories” and logic tells me that this should link through to the page but it doesn’t.

    Is there any way at all to get the buttons working – it would make a big difference to the website if this is possible?

    Thanks so much,
    Jen

    It is possible, but not easy. So that goes beyond our support policy, unfortunately.

    Kind Regards, Roman.
