I’m thinking of converting the images on my site. 92% of my visitors use one of the main browsers. The other 8% are not known, but perhaps these are just bots or something, or also support WebP.

I understand that the plugin doesn’t modify the original image files. But what if I’m happy with the result? Can I simply delete the old image directory to save disk space and to keep my site free from old files, which are not longer in use? Or store the old images files locally?

And what about AVIV? Can I simply decide to keep the AVIV and WebP files, but delete the *.jpg and *.gif and occasional *.png files?

    Hello @dotch,

    Thanks for your message.

The plugin cannot delete the original files. This is mainly due to one reason. This is in case you want to uninstall my plugin? Then you cannot do it because the converted WebP and AVIF files will not be available. Then you are left with nothing because you deleted the original files.

What do you see the solution to this situation?

    Best,
    Mateusz

Thanks for your quick answer. I see your point.

I was thinking of a scenario in which you convert all images of your site and then, decide never to use *.jpg, *.gif or *.png anymore.

@dotch What if you change your mind?
