• Hi, I would like a new theme for my WP site and have looked at ones out there and there are things I like about each one, but also things I don’t like. I was wondering if someone could make me one that has the features I like?

All theme names I use are from:
    https://www.alexking.org/software/wordpress/theme_browser.php

    – I like the layout and colours of the “Almost Spring” they are cool.
    – I like the way how on mouseover the links bring up a little box instead of the traditional alt or title tag, like on “Neuron.” I really like this…The only problem I had with this theme was the side navbar, and how it mashed all the links together and the cateogories aren’t automatically expanded.
    – And the only other thing is to have the same kind of header as the default theme, so that I can fit my 760x200px banner there like it is now.

If anyone could do that it would be great, I’m not sure if anyone can, thanks! ??

  • Hi Paul,

This is probably a great opportunity for you to learn how to make your own themes, since I suspect you won’t be overwhelmed by people wanting to volunteer time to build you a custom theme. Ordinarily, that would be something a designer would expect to be paid for. But then, you never know — people sometimes surprise and delight.

If you have some money to put into the redesign, I’d suggest you google for professional designers. I’ve seen good work done by blogmoxie, but it looks like good work equals they’ve become very busy [1].

If you lack money to invest in your redesign, I’d start reading the WordPress Codex, particularly the section on Blog Design And Layout. After that, pull apart themes from WP sites you like, figure out how they did the things you like, and build yourself a theme you adore.

    Much warmth,

[1] I assume there are some very good pro-am designers who lurk in these support forums, but I don’t know if it’s ok to solicit for professional services here.

The best way to attract people who may be interested is to leave an email address (Some designers are shy). Please write it in a way that spammers bots cannot easily grab it – for instance: me AT my_domain DOT com

And for themes – they don’t come too cheap.

    (And no, I don’t do themes !)

Building a theme is no joke. My theme is not all that great, and it has taken me over 60 hours (working on it in bits and pieces over the past four months). I think your best bet is to build one yourself, unless you are willing to pay someone.

Believe me, once you get the hang of it, and the light bulb goes on in your head, you won’t be able to STOP yourself from making themes!!!
