Hi! I’m new to WP from Blogger. I have a privately hosted account and am working on transferring and converting my blog over the WordPress software from Blogger. Please forgive any misunderstanding I have, I was already over at wordpress.com forums and told to go here instead and already getting confused. I did read the welcome message here and did try to search for my question. I’m sure it’s been answered but I must not be using the right tag words.

I’m looking at themes at wordpress.com/themes and found a few free ones I want to try. I found this free one: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/fresh-and-clean/

But there is no option to download that theme, or any of them, that I can see. The only option I see is to “Activate”. When I click that, it doesn’t activate on my privately hosted blog, I believe because I need the option to download the theme and then upload it to my hosted blog themes in my dashboard. I did look through the pre-installed theme options there, but don’t see any of the ones I am interested in from the wordpress.com gallery.

I’d be grateful for any help or pointing out something obvious I may be missing!

Thank you so much for your patience with me being so green yet here.

    Salihah

Also, if anyone knows how: When I log into my WordPress.com account, my privately hosted blog does not show up in “My Blogs”. It only shows as a “Linked Blog”. Is there a way to place under “My Blogs”? And to have the same username and log-in for my hosted wordpress blog account and my free wordpress account? I’m wondering because when I comment on other WordPress blogs (free or privately hosted) I’d like my name/profile to link to my privately hosted blog.

  • There is no direct download feature for themes made available for use on wordpress.com. Sometimes, similar versions of those same themes can be found here in the Themes Directory. You can also visit the theme developers site to see if there is a public version available for download. If not, you can still use an SVN client to download the wordpress.com version of the theme (free themes) directly to your desktop.

Thank you, ClaytonJames. That’s the info I was looking for. I’ll dig into the options you shared. Thanks so much!

Aside from Clayton-James’s reply, themes for self-hosted WP.ORG sites are here: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/

You can’t add a self-hosted site to WP.COM, nor are self-hosted sites related in any way – so you can’t comment or login using the same user account. .COM and .ORG sites are not connected in the same way that .COM sites are (they are actually all on one big network of sites).

This might help clarify the differences:

Thank you, WPyogi! My mind is still not wrapping around this WP.com vs WP.org segregated sectarianism lol but I’ll read up on it.

ClaytonJames, your advice worked! Theme installed. Yay!

Thank you to you both for your help and patience.
