• Suppose I have a site mysite.com

If I create a folder ‘newsite’ inside root of mysite.com and upload all files of wordpress using ftp, will this work?

I mean will I have 2 different websites with different loin credentials?

The reason I am doing this because I want to have my site separate for blogging and want to use a wordpress forum theme for creating forum and to keep all members there only.

Will there be any problem in permalink or something like that? I searched on google and people talking about modifying .htaccesss.

    Noob in worddprwss. Please help.

    Thank You

  • Well there’s a couple of things to think about here.

In WordPress there will be a export button somewhere. You can export this info (as an XML) and then on a clean install on your sub directory upload that XML.

If you move the site by FTP, it’ll be a bit more complicated. You then have to deal with uploading a mysql database, backups, etc.

The best part about the xml method is that you can actually skip changing .htaccess and other permalink stuff because you do a clean install on subdirectory first.

Yep. Subdomains are common. Just make sure you backup you site first just in case something goes horribly wrong. ‘Loin credentials’ made me smile but I realize just a typo.

I may have misunderstood – you want to create a new start-from-scratch subdomain, or clone your existing site into a subdomain? Both are doable, the latter is a bit more complicated.

Existing sub-domain afaik. He sounded like he could just create a folder off of the main one.
