• I have a blog at Blogger.com. I am using my own Domain name, a custom template, and letting Blogger do the hosting. The author of the custom template just released a version for WordPress. Is it now possible to move my blog to WordPress, keeping the same Domain, and using my own host?

If so, please explain how. If not please explain why. Thank you

Thank you for the response. I’m confused on a few things. As I said my website (www.mysite.com) is hosted at Blogger. I just purchased hosting at Hostgator. So what should I do first? Can I install WordPress at Hostgator with no Domain Name and then move my blog over. Or do I need a Domain before installing WordPress on Hostgator? I also read someplace that I would have to go to my Registar and point my Domain to Hostgator first and then install WordPress.

Do you see where I’m confused?

Or do I need a Domain before installing WordPress on Hostgator? I also read someplace that I would have to go to my Registar and point my Domain to Hostgator first and then install WordPress

    both of those are correct
    buy hosting
    buy domain name
point dns servers to hosting acct.
    install whatever you like

But I don’t need to buy a domain. I just need to move my Domain(www.mysite.com) that I have hosted at Blogger over to WordPress. What I’m asking is what steps do I take to do this, and in what order? For example:

    Step 1: Do this.

    Step 2: Do that.

For instance. As soon as I set up my account at Hostgator the very first thing it asks is to select a Domain. Well the domain I want to use(www.mysite.com) is already being hosted at Blogger. So what should I do? I can’t have two hosts for one Domain right? This is where I’m stuck. If someone could tell me the what steps in what order, that would be great. Thank you.

you will need to point the name servers wherever you purchased your domain name to point new hosting acct.
Hostgator will be glad to help you with this.
Once domain is resolved, hostgator has a one click wordpress install.

joeyt862, Did you get your domain transfered over yet?

I need to do something similar. I want to move my Google Blogger domain over to a full website. Ultimately using WordPress. However, I may use another hosting company.

So are you up and running and did you run into any snags when taking your Blogger domain?

    Thanks

    There are two situations

Transfer a blog at .blogspot to WordPress blog
transfer a blogger custom domain to WordPress blog.

The second one is much easier. So purchase your custom domain and add it to .blogspot blog. Wait few days for Google to index the new domain.

After few days purchase hosting and transfer your domain to new hosting account. Use import tool to transfer your blog posts to WordPress blog. Keep your old blogspot blog not deleted to avoid the the loss of images hosted with that account.

Make sure that you select a permalink structure similar to that in Blogger. You have 301 your older posts with some permalink migration plugin.

    That’s it .

I have my domain name with kompozer and want to transfer the domain name to wordpress how can i do that. In other words i no longer want to use the kompozer site but would rather use a wordpress blog with my domain
