Thanks for getting in touch! I can certainly understand that need for a bit more flexibility. That said, the way that the List Subscirbe plugin is designed does not allow for using a short code to control where the form appears on the page.
If you’re interested in that sort of option, I think it might be a good idea to check out MailChimp’s Embedded Forms. This signup form is included when you create a new list in MailChimp, and I pulled this guide from their Knowledge Base walking through how to set it up and add it to your site. I recommend it as it is driven by copying and pasting embed code from MailChimp onto your site, so you could control its location more specifically. Here’s that article:
