    Hello,

Our company currently has two websites:
    https://www.seamlesslinings.co.uk/ Linings
    and https://seamlessinteriors.com/ Interiors
We have since merged the linings information with our interiors site, and would eventually like to delete the linings site. I have been advised that I should use a 301 on the linings site to re-direct to the interiors site, and was wondering if this is possible with this plug in?
I have downloaded redirection, and pasted both URL’s in the necessary boxes, but there seems to be no change, so I am not too sure what i’m doing wrong.
Do I need to log in to the linings site or the interiors site in order to upload the plug in? I have currently tried it on both.

    Many thanks,

    Natasha

You can redirect anything on a server where Redirection is installed. Is Redirection on your old domain, or do you have your old domain mapped to your new domain?

    Hi John,

thanks for your reply – I’m sorry, I don’t know what you mean by ‘mapped to your new domain’. I currently have the plug in installed on both websites, but have since disabled the redirection as it does not seem to be working.

You said you wanted to delete the old site. You will need to keep the domain name, and can map or point that domain name at your new site. Then all requests for the old site will go to the new one. If you have Redirection installed on the new site you can then configure it to redirect the old domain to the new domain.

    Hi,

Yes I know – but when I install the redirection plug in, and paste the old domain into the source URL box, and then paste the new domain into the target url box, I then press add redirect and it does not seem to be working. The old site is still running without a 301 added to it. So do you know why this might be happening?

What domain is it installed on, what redirect settings did you use, and there a URL I can test?

I have tried to install it on both domains, and both times it has not seemed to work. Which site should I be installing it on?

And I just used the default settings that are already on there:

    source URL: https://www.seamlesslinings.co.uk/
Query Parameters: Exact match all parameters in any order
    Match: URL only
When matched: redirect to URL wit HTTP code: 301
    Target URL: https://seamlessinteriors.com/services/linings/
    Group: Redirections Position: 0
    URL options/regex (none selected)

Other than the URLS to both sites, is there another one you would need?

You install it on the site you want to redirect from. I notice that you are using a caching plugin, and this can prevent any changes being detected.

I have deactivated all of the plugins and it is still not working – when I click on ‘check redirect’ it is coming up with 200 and not 301

Can you post a screenshot of the redirect settings?

Apologies if I’ve missed it – but I cant see an option anywhere for me to add a screen shot/ image?

Sorry, you’ll need to upload it somewhere else, like imgur or a screenshotting website.

Ok, so I think you’ve created a ‘URL and server’ match, probably because the URL https://www.seamlesslinings.co.uk/ is not the same as the one configured in WordPress. If you edit that redirect you should see the ‘match’ setting is ‘URL and server’.

If you change it to ‘URL only’ and change the source to ‘/’ then it should do what you want.

I had originally set it up as ‘URL only’ and after pressing redirect, it has changed it to URL and server.
I have just tried to edit the redirect, and when I change it back to ‘URL only’ it will not let me save it.

Ok, delete it, and create another one. This time put / as the source.
