• My host server lost about 2 months of posts. I have the content, but want to know if I can replace them with the original URSs so all the searches for that topic, old bookmarks of posts, old tweets, shares, etc., will get people to the right post.

  • Do you have a backup of the original database containing the old posts?

Sadly, the backup from the server wasn’t current enough — I lost 2 months of posts, but have the cached files someone sent me via a Google search. I can copy and paste new posts, but I don’t know if/how I can have them point to the original URL (which at the moment are empty).

I have everything up to March 11th recovered, but anything after that date disappeared from the web.

It might be possible if you add them back in the right order but it would all be a bit “hit & miss”. What post permalink structure are you using?

Also, since I’ve added new posts since the crash, I guess the URLs are no longer appearing in the same order. I thought if there was a way to edit them, I could do that, but there doesn’t seem to be.

    The default

In that case, it would be very hit & miss as images, attachments and revisions also use ids. So the chance of you getting the same id for a given post would be very slim, I’m afraid.
