• My client has a peculiar internal DNS setup that means they cannot access their website on it’s public URL from their office network.

I’ve parked an internal domain for them which means they can now access the front-end of the site but accessing <internal_domain>/wp-admin/ redirects to <external_domain>/wp-admin/ and means they cannot login to their site.

Is there any way to have wp-admin run at an internal domain?

I don’t want to use WPMS if possible in this instance.

  • I hate to say it, but no. WordPress is a one-URL system.

While I have heard that there are ways to change this… I haven’t heard of anything that works well so while it may technically be possible, it woudl be very hard to find something that actually works.

    Hmm,

I’m not totally familiar with why their network behaves the way it does but this could be done if it was a WPMS site.

I’ve mapped multiple domains to a single site in the past and it’s worked fine.

Why can’t a single site make use of domain mapping in the same way?

    Because it’s not a network.

A single site has one URL. That’s how it works. Domain mapping is not a part of a standard single site.

I get it. Next step to figure out how the network is put together and see if I can do anything at that level?

I guess so. I haven’t tried to run a network under different URL’s before. For what I do that’s never been an issue. Every network that I’ve needed before was for different sites, so it’s a different use-case to yours. I do hope that you can figure it out. ??
