Apologies – this is a newbie question: I’m just getting started, and am trying to create some ‘proofs of concept’ before deciding whether this plugin will satisfy my requirements.

I’ve created 4 PDF docs, and have attached an Attachment Category and an Attachment Tag to all 4. I can list them using shortcodes; that’s great.

First q: can I customize the output to show a PdF icon AND the file name?

I also need a search function: I’ve used the boilerplate in the examples, but am getting no output. When I configure an image using an Attachment Category, I can search for the image and it is displayed.

Second q: how do I add the ability to search for PDF docs?

    many thanks

I can now search for PDFs, and I’ll probably find out the answer to the other question with a bit more patience/research ??
    thanks

Thanks for your questions and for digging in and finding one answer on your own. You can find some suggestions for displaying the file name by adapting the suggestion in this earlier topic:

    Display Icon and Title

You can replace {+title+} with other data sources such as {+file_name+} or {+name_only+} to get the results you seek.

I will leave this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the suggested solutions. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

    Thanks, David.

    • Can I configure a search box to search the value of Custom Fields? I’m going to assign a few bits of metadata to the uploaded PDFs, and wondered if search is possible.

Thanks for the additional question regarding a custom field search. This has come up in earlier support topics:

    Search Media by Custom Field

    Searching on custom fields

The current MLA version includes a substantially upgraded “MLA Custom Field Search Example” plugin. The new example plugin includes more powerful search capabilities, settings to configure its operation and a “Documentation” tab explaining its features and operation.

To get the example plugin, navigate to the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab and click the “Example Plugins” button. Type “custom” in the text box and click “Search Plugins” to filter the table.

You are looking for the “MLA Custom Field Search Example” plugin. Find that plugin and hover over the title in the left-most column. Click the “Install” rollover action, then go to the WordPress Plugins/Installed Plugins submenu and activate the example plugin as you would any other plugin. Make sure you have the latest version, 1.06, installed.

Once the example plugin is installed and active you can access the Settings/Custom Search Documentation tab to learn more about the plugin and its capabilities. If you have any problems or further questions regarding the example plugin, post an update here and I can give you more specific guidance.
