    Hello,

I recently built my website using WordPress as the CMS and I paid for a WordPress GNU theme to make it an online workplace (people sell their services to companies interested in them). I have the license, and all is legal. I have modified the theme, modified the CSS, add my own images, I have data for users, etc.

My concern is that I am going to raise funding for my website and the investors want to know whether I own the Intellectual property. I have been reading about the GNU General Public License but I’m not sure whether selling my website is legal or not.

I know that future angel investors’ lawyers will examine everything closely so I want to be sure about what I can and cannot do.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,
    Ana.

  • You need to go back to the developers of your theme with this question. as I understand it, you can sell the web site and/or theme on but you cannot, ethically or legally, claim intellectual property rights for the theme. That still rests with the theme’s developers.

Thanks Esmi. I’ll check with the developers.

    Esmi,

Can I sell memberships to my website that uses a wordpress theme?

    Hi,

You might have to check with the theme developers to make sure you have a commercial use licence. If you do, then yes you can.

This plugin is great for selling memberships and allowing access to only certain people (like people who pay for a subscription): https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/protected-content/

    Good luck!
