    Hi Guys,
Just want to start off by saying thank you for the plugin.
    I have a quick question…

Am I able to set a certain language depending on the location of the website user? Is this perhaps only available in the paid version or not at all?

If not available I image that the automatic translator would be useful here through Google translator API. Is this the case?

I appreciate your time and efforts.
    Thank you,
    Josh

  • Hi Josh, I think the answer is no.

This gentleman here wants to have an individual post written in another language (i.e., not the default/primary one) and the plugin support staff said it can’t be done:
How to set individual posts as another language in translatepress | www.ads-software.com

I also look at Gtranslate it can’t be done either.

The only one I’m aware of that can do it is WPML.

The reason is WPML duplicate each page/post into another post for a new language, thus you can edit it individually. However, it will slow down the site when you have a lot of posts, or for Woocommerce duplicate products and ballon the database.

TranslatePress and GTranslate works on string level. Thus, the plugin expect all WordPress user use a particular language, say English to write or edit, and use the plugin to translate.

I’m thinking of workaround by having the non-default language writer (say English) writing in the second language and use Google translate to paste this back into the primary language. Not ideal, but compared to WPML, which is very versatile but also in my 4 years of managing a large Wocoommerce site very buggy. I don’t want to go back to WPML.

    Hello there,

    Thank you for reaching us!

If you refer to users to be redirected to their preferred language, then this can be possible with our plugin using the Automatic User Language Detection addon.

Sorry, but we are not allowed to speak about the paid versions here. In case you would like to have that conversation please open a support ticket using our site https://translatepress.com/

If there’s anything else, please let me know!

    Kind Regards,
