can I trigger an upload via javascript?

I’m using the plugin to upload user generated content and currently building an interface where the user creates a todo list, which he can subsequently download. I’d like to trigger a file upload via javascript – passing the title/description variables is not an issue, but for security reasons file is not allowed. Is there a JS binding of the plugin i could use instead?
