Can I use wordpress for this

  • I have a very specific idea of what I want to do could someone tell me if I can achieve this by installing wordpress.

    I want to edit my home page at https://www.pistolpokerleague.com so that all the text in the main part of the body is replaced with a list of article snippets and a “read more” option at the bottom.

    I would like new articles to be displayed at the top and all older articles pushed down a place. Once there are say five articles on the front page and I write a new one, I want the last article to be taken off and a link to “read all articles” to be displayed.

    Can I achieve this with wordpress and how much time is it likely to take me?

    I am currently installing a forum and I am comfortable editing the code over a copy and paste instruction format. What I’m getting at is I’m ok with computers but I’m not a coder.

    If this is possible but it’s not a simple case of upload the files and tick some boxes then I may very well be looking to outsource this job to someone. Unless of course the editing of current code is very very basic and a prewritten tutorial is written somewhere.

    I would be very greatful if someone would be able to answer these questions for me.

    That depends how quickly you can learn to use it and how effectively you can make use of the Codex/support documentation. I’d suggest starting with https://codex.www.ads-software.com/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start

    You can absolutely acheive this with WordPress, and I’d add that WordPress is specifically designed for these exact needs (posts, archives, excerpts, etc.).

    Using the default functionality, you can easily choose how many posts to display on the home page (or main posts page). You can also use the “more” feature to define post cut-off points where the “read-more” link will go. etc.

    Of course, you can customize it further by tweaking your theme or using a pre-made theme. The codex is also very helpful.

    Yes. You can use WordPress for the same. You have lots of Plugins available to modify the functionality according to your liking. WordPress is very flexible and I am sure you can mold it to your needs.

    Yes, just find a theme that does exactly [more or less] what you want to do
