• Hi. This is very basic: I like WP and am happy with the blog that I created. I’ve had great assistance from Hector the creator of PopularPosts, so I think that this forum question might bring an answer:

I am now seeking to replace my self-made main website format. (I created my site using MS FrontPage/Expressions Web but use FTP uploads and avoid the FP Extensions.) Can I use WP for a business website?

Is it prohibited to use WP themes as a base for showing information about my business? I like WP for my blog and think that I can find a theme that will look good for the main site front page. I do counseling, and I can present enough information using WP in order to inform people so that they can call the office.

I didn’t know where to find the answer to this question in the WP sites. I hope that the right people can find this and let me know. It is a very basic question, I am sure.

    Thanks for your kind consideration.

No. There are absolutely no restrictions on how you use your self-hosted WordPress site.

WordPress is great for building business websites, as I have used it countless times. Don’t limit yourself to thinking of WordPress as just blogging software – the skies the limit when it comes to WordPress.

I know, I’ve yet to find a need that I couldn’t find a theme and plugins to accomplish the task – this includes contact pages, e-commerce, and much more.

Well, maybe I can get Tim to answer this basic question:

I would like to use a WP theme for my main site. (I have a blog based on WP which is in a “blog” folder on my site.)

I currently have a page labeled, /index.htm . Can I install WP as my site format and retain the pages that are there during the time of switching their content into the WP network of pages?

If I install WP, will the “index” page function be taken over by WP?

I have many links both incoming and outgoing from my index page, and I’d like to be able to gradually shift from the current MS FrontPage version into the WP version.

Tim’s info led to his professional site, so he likely knows how to do that very smoothly.

You can, but it would be easier to install WP in a Subfolder (domain.com/blog as you mentioned) and set it all up there. When you’re done, you can leave it in that folder but make it LOOK like it’s in root: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
